Chaski

the relay messaging system was one of the most efficient systems implemented by the Incas,
The chaski or messenger runner was the human element used for this purpose, recruited from among the fastest and most athletic young people who did not exceed 20 years of age, they were placed in relief positions distributed throughout the great Inca trail 'QAPACÑAN', many Spanish chroniclers wrote about the great feats of speed and efficiency with which messages were transmitted, it is said that a message could travel 1200 km in just 6 days, the chaskis not only carried messages but could also carry a load of approx 15 kg consisting of some exotic foods that according to the chronicles arrived fresh at the hands of the great lords of Peru.

Greetings, Motivated by modeling microstructures in 3d I decided to make this model in which I apply some new ideas about procedural and scripting that I have been exploring lately.

I chose these references for being very natural and not very forced since I wanted to capture the essence of the Andean man, ornamental fabrics were a challenge at the time of scripting.

the classic clothing of the Inca soldier consisted of a checkered tunic, to which I add some modifications, always using authentic archaeological pieces as reference, the script reads bitmaps to generate the structure of a brocade tapestry.

once the script was finished I just applied it again to this new brocade pattern adding small variants and then exporting it to houdini, where I applied the LYNX_fabric plugin created by lucas Scheller

Double-sided fabrics were very common in ancient times, to generate this new structure I combined my brocade script with the plain fabric one, giving satisfactory results.

The quipu can be considered as a matrix structure. Ironically, the script used also uses matrix structures, after generating the linear shape use modifiers to line them up to new linear shapes.

cross kniting was a structural technique widely used to embroider fabrics in ancient Peru, the pattern that I create uses many colors and it was quite tedious to merge it, then having the 3d model apply hairs in zbrush to give it a softer look

to create the sandal script apply the mathematical concepts of turns, twist, curve length and curvature

To create the skin I did not want to use scanned textures or pre-existing files, I used some diffusion concepts for the script

and some triangular tessellations to generate the displacement map, then apply it in zbrush and modify and add some noise

And this is it, thank you very much, good night!
